About the project
With a steadily growing number of individuals seeking spiritual guidance, IBF has recognized the need for a more spacious and welcoming environment to continue its benevolent service to the community. As Buddhism increasingly resonates with people for its practical, compassionate, and non-strict approach, the demand for a dedicated spiritual home has become ever more evident.
Establishing an expanded structure as a spiritual home in Geneva will allow IBF to nurture a larger community, strengthen its activities, and ensure long-term sustainability. This new building will serve as a sanctuary for spiritual growth; offering regular meditation sessions, Dhamma teachings, community gatherings, and routine activities; all under the blessings of the Triple Gem. It will be a place where seekers can deepen their practice and where the Dhamma can continue to flourish.
Task Force Team
To fulfil this vision, IBF established the Building Fund Task Force in September 2019, comprising ten dedicated members from the community. The Task Force is led by Venerable Welagedara Sumanajothi Thero.
The current President of IBF serves as the Liaison Officer, ensuring smooth coordination between the Task Force and the IBF Executive Committee. The Project Team continues its work under the spiritual guidance of Venerable Welagedara Sumanajothi Thero, whose wisdom and leadership help steer the project toward realizing this goal.
Status of the project
The Building Fund Project is a continuing initiative of IBF, dedicated to securing a suitable place for a spiritual home in Geneva. To ensure constant progress and proper oversight, the Building Fund Task Force is elected every five years. This team is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing all activities related to the project.
At each Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Task Force presents a comprehensive Activity and Financial Report, including updates on funds collected, pledges received, and fundraising activities carried out during the year. These efforts reflect the collective commitment of the IBF community to achieving this long-term vision.
Fundraising for the project is ongoing and is supported through several channels, including:
-
- Pledges made by devotees, payable over a chosen period
-
- Direct contributions to the Building Fund
-
- Donations through last wills, which some supporters choose to include as part of their legacy
-
- Community fundraising activities, such as food stalls, food parcel sales, and other events
-
- Internal initiatives, including simple daily-donation concepts introduced within the community
Thanks to the continued generosity and dedication of devotees, well-wishers, and the wider community, the Building Fund has now exceeded CHF 100,000. This steady growth demonstrates the steady determination to establish a lasting spiritual home where the Dhamma may flourish for generations to come.
Proposed Building Plan
As the preference is to build a Temple expecting that funds would be forthcoming, an architecturally designed building plan was drawn up as bellow :
